GODLY PLAY and CONNECT SUNDAY SCHOOL

Calling All Lovers of Children!

We need you to help us offer the children of St. John’s something fun, interesting and different during the summer. The following Sundays are open and waiting for you: June 25, July 2, 9, 16,23, 30 and August 6, 13, 20 and 27. The group is small, enthusiastic and fun!

If you could offer to sign up for one or two “Summer Sundays” to do any kind of an activity, or craft with our children, it would be greatly appreciated. The activity could have a Christian theme….or not!! 30 minutes to teach a song, an active game (in the Parish Hall), a craft (sew a bean bag, cook in the kitchen, storytelling, drama, a Tom Sawyer berry picking basket, a stick fishing pole…”to become fishers of men”…. anything that inspires you!). If you are willing but can’t think of anything, grab a friend or contact us for ideas. It takes a village….our village to raise our children! Look for the big poster in Cram Hall to sign up, or contact Alison Adams at 415-306- 1729 ( or Heather Oehm, at heather@oehm. com or 769-4778. Thank you—you won’t be sorry you did it!!

Calling all St. John’s Kids!!

September 9:
It is Back to School time, AND Back to Godly Play and Connect!!

For children PreK through grade 3: Godly Play is about coming to know God through the art of storytelling. In Godly Play, children are encouraged on their spiritual journeys through the beautiful, rich language found in every Godly Play story. The stories are told with the help of simple organic materials that the children are invited to explore and play with after the storytelling time. Godly Play happens every Sunday through the school year. We begin the year with the “Circle of the Church Year”, “The Holy Family”, “Creation”, and “The Flood”.

Connect will be offered every Sunday! The goal of our Connect curriculum (grade 4 on up) is “to engage preteens in God’s big story through videos, Bible exploration and hands-on projects“. Each class begins with a warmup game, followed by a video that often demonstrates a real life connection between the Bible readings and an everyday dilemma. The kids then read aloud the passages, discuss and conclude with a project. We will begin the year by exploring the Old Testament stories of “Creation”, “The Fall”, “Suffering” and “The Flood”, to name a few.

Elizabeth Schroeder has kindly accepted Alison’s “invitation” to assume her leadership role of the Sunday School. We are extremely fortunate to have Elizabeth (mother of Jane!) take the helm. Our roster of teachers for the coming year include Heather Oehm, Elizabeth, Alison, Kari Klein, Monty Sullivan, Kathleen Dal Porto, Amy Anderson, Emily Betts and Mary Davies! We welcome anyone to join us in this important ministry of teaching our future generation about the love of God and our Lord Jesus. Drop in any time to see what we do!
