Music at St. John's

Music is an essential part of our ministry at St. John’s, supporting a worshiping community that honors the depth and richness of Episcopal tradition and the best of contemporary currents in liturgy and music.

 LAUDATE CHOIR AT 8:00 AM

Traditional Episcopal liturgy is accompanied by the Laudate Choir and organ at our 8:00 a.m. Sunday Rite One Eucharist and on other special occasions. The Laudate Choir is led by Susan Stewart, with Suzanne Gray and Connee Young. The ensemble sings Early Music, plainsong chant, and Episcopal favorites. Jim Harrod, the church organist, accompanies the liturgy. Jim comes to St. John’s with a solid background and training in Anglican Church music and organ performance.

The Organ at St. John’s is an historic Moeller from earlier years. The instrument has 24 ranks of pipes and fills the church’s interior with majestic sounds. The organ is heard on Sunday mornings at the early service and on special occasions. A visit to the organ loft can be arranged for visitors.

NEW SONG CHOIR AT 10:00 AM

The 10 am choir has been working to keep the singing alive, sans choir director, first by simply showing up and rehearsing before the services with our beloved and talented pianist Leilani Wicklund. Jim Harrod, St. John's amazing organist joins the choir on alternating Sundays. New member and professional singer Judie Cochill has been instrumental in reviving the choir. Weekly rehearsals are on Sundays at 9:40 in the church. There will be one rehearsal on Thursday, September 17 at 4:40 pm. Beginning Wednesday, September 24, weekly rehearsals will be Wednesdays at 4:40 pm. There are still seats in the choir section.
