Daniel Green was born in Riverside, California and raised in California, Indiana, and Vermont.  His childhood Christian formation was in a congregation of the Disciples of Christ.  He has worked as a political activist, community organizer, carpenter, farmer, and gardener, and lived in a variety of intentional communities.

Daniel studied religion, history, and philosophy at Williams College and the California Institute of Integral Studies.  After six years of residential practice and study at the San Francisco Zen Center, he began attending Episcopal churches in San Francisco in 1994.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church, where he was active as a liturgical minister, preacher, and teacher, and served on the vestry.  He received a M.Div. degree from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in May, 2005.  He was ordained a priest in December of that year, and immediately came to All Saints’, Carmel, California as Assisting Priest, later Associate Rector.

In August 2010, he was appointed Priest-in-Charge of St. John’s, Petaluma.  He was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California in March 2014, and appointed Dean of the Russian River Deanery in June 2014.  He serves on the Advisory Board of the Interfaith Sustainable Food Collaborative, and is Chair of the Steering Committee of the Petaluma Children’s Chorus. In November 2014, after a year-long discernment process among parishioners in all sectors of the church community, Daniel was called to become the Rector of St. John's Episcopal, Petaluma.

The Vestry

The Vestry is the governing “board of directors” of St. John’s Petaluma.  The term of office is three years, and one-third of the Vestry members are elected each year at the Annual Parish Meeting to serve as “agents and legal representatives of the Parish in all matters concerning its corporate property and the relations of the parish to its clergy” as described in Cannon 14 of the Episcopal Church.

The Diocesan Constitution and Parish by-laws suggest that one be “a communicant whose name shall be duly enrolled in the Register of the Parish, is sixteen years of age or older, is regular in his/her attendance at services, and is a steward of his/her time, talent and treasure for its support.”

Marsha Trent joined the staff of St. John’s on June 4, 2014 and rapidly mastered the finer points of service bulletins, parish directories, and other mainstays of church life. Self described as semi-retired, Marsha acknowledges she isn’t shy and she likes word play. In fact, she’d say that word play is what she’s been doing for most of her professional life. She came to California from Colorado more than 20 years ago after a long career in newspaper journalism. Before finding a home in Petaluma about 15 years ago, she worked for a newsletter publisher and at various North Bay newspapers. She worked at the Petaluma Visitor’s program for nearly a decade as visitor services coordinator and media relations director.

Marsha is working part-time on communications and administration at St. John’s. She’s usually at the church on Wednesday from about  1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and on Thursday from about 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. She can be contacted via e-mail at marshat.sjecp@gmail.com.
